The Borough Most Thorough Program Impacts Youth Across Scarborough

Commencing this July and presented by Beatz to the Streetz and the Scarborough Arts Council, Scarborough will be bringing urban music home. The Borough Most Thorough’s third year promises to raise the roof and the bar by expanding to six locations and reaching more youth neighbourhoods than in previous years. This free program involved week-long urban music workshops held in six priority neighbourhoods in Scarborough.  Open to anyone between the ages of 14 to 19, youth will get the opportunity to engage in a full immersive music program which allows them to explore their creativity as emerging artists.

Led by professional artists, each workshop series offers youth the chance to explore all facets of the music industry, including production and recording, public relations and musicianship. Participants will build connections with established mentors in the field and get helpful advice from industry professionals.  The recording is free to be distributed by its creators, fueling future musical endeavours without traditional music parameters. The Borough Most Thorough is proud to open its doors again, striving to promote further opportunities for creative expressions and showcase youth as valuable and talented persons within the community.

“From the beginning stages of writing to the final stages of recording for a mixed and mastered full-length CD project, the participants will have concocted an amazing piece of original art that only helps to enrich both their lives and hip-hop itself!”, said Daniel Faraldo from The School of Rap, lead instructor for The Borough Most Thorough.

To conclude the program, youth, will showcase their tracks to friends, family and community members at the official recording launch, which consists of a listening party and live showcase featuring local artists. This occurs at the Subtext Multi-Arts Festival on Saturday, September 11, 2010.
